More than “getting toned”
or “getting bendy”

This work goes beyond the goals of the physical practice

It’s about a community of brave people showing up for themselves and bringing what they learn off the mat and into the world.

The wellness industry is full of studios with different blends, modalities, and modernizations of Yoga & Pilates. Some lean towards tradition, others a misappropriated fusion, some focus on power and strength, while others on ease and light. It’s not The Practice Space’s task to compare itself to others but rather to lead and communicate how we do things.

And, as we see it, the quick-fix advertising we often see for the wellness industry has betrayed you in one significant way. It usually portrays the bodies that are thin or are years into their practice. It has created a belief that fitness and wellness systems serve to always make you happy and have the ultimate goal of [mentally insert your desired body goal here]. That’s a lie.

The Practice Space prioritizes agency in all of its students to form a practice that will cumulatively foster resilience in life. Resilience means that through good and bad times, the practice is a tether to keep you bravely grounded. We will not be able to avoid the inevitable, but we can connect to our deeper self so we can recognize our deeper needs and the needs of others.

This practice is not about what you can do or what you look like: it’s about how it feels in your body.

Because the truth is, if physical goals are the only goals, we neglect our minds. The practice isn’t here to “fix you.” It’s here to bring you into connection with your entire self, mind and body. Back to center. To be a friend to your emotional and physical experiences.

You get to decide what feels right in your body. You can learn to trust your body’s cues. This is the hard work that builds resiliency and agency.

Through a steady exploration of Self, you can better understand your own nuances, needs, and quirks. You can build recognition within yourself. You can build confidence, acceptance, trust, boundaries, capacity, and bravery.

A dedicated practice is about the power of blending body and mind to deepen your understanding of you

This work is hard —
mindfully hard.

Resilience

The ability to return back to center, to find strength and flexibility to come back to ourselves, no matter how far off we may stretch from this point.

This is what we value,

Clarity

We believe in permission and agreement so everyone consents and feels clear and informed. We create honest conversations about “hard work”, “process-oriented practice” and “agency-focused teaching”.

Recognition

The observation of where we are right now, current circumstances, and all. By pausing for inner reflection, we understand where we are and where we’d like to move towards with deep presence.

Friendship

Equity in the relationships between community members, students, teachers, and staff. By investing time in one another with balance, respect, and humor, together, we build a dedicated lifelong practice.

Bravery

Beyond being a safe space, we foster the bravery it requires to do the challenging work, to be uncomfortable, and face the obstacles of life.

Bija

The commitment to the seeds planted, resting, sprouting, or fruiting within the practice. Most transformation occurs slowly underground. We trust that the practice will water those seeds.
